task bar icons

The icons on my Task Bar now have a label attached when the App opens. (I do not want a label. It clutters the Task Bar and keeps changing as Apps open and close) A. Is this a new feature with the Win10CU or did I inadvertently turn something on? B. How do I shut this off? I’ve spent way too much time on this nagging distraction, and even consulted the newest edition of Windows 10 Field guide.

Thanks for your help.

Settings -> Personalization -> Taskbar -> Combine Taskbar Buttons: set this to "Always, hide labels." Should do what you want.
