Tips for battery saving in a sleep mode?

Hello,

Are there any tips or tricks to prevent my laptop from draining the battery too fast in a sleep mode (when the lid is closed)? I’m currently using Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (core i7 10th gen, integrated graphics, running Windows 11) just for casual tasks like web browsing, word processing, light photo editing. When the lid is closed the battery discharges ca 7-9% per hour. My work MacBook 2013 (intel version) drains less power when in sleep mode.

Any suggestion/advice?

My suggestion is to shut the computer down when you are done using it. Rebooting Windows at least in my experience makes it run smoother.

well, I agree, but often times you just don’t have that possibility. Say, when I need to interrupt doing some important project with tons of opened websites, applications and documents. Just pause the work by closing the lid is way better solution than closing everything and and then reopen every single part of the project.

That’s true, but if you are "closing" it down to go off for a few hours, it is worth the bother.

….and booting Windows is only seconds these days anyway. Nothing is so desperate to get at 15 seconds or so quicker, surely?

That does sound like a lot of battery drain for sleep mode, at least in my experience. Maybe it is normal if you have a lot loaded into memory, though. We all have different workflows.

If you don’t want to lose all of your work you have open, but sleep mode is consuming too much battery, have you considered using Hibernation mode? It would effectively shutdown the computer but everything will resume where you left off when you turn it back on.

I had this same problem with a new Dell laptop I bought last month. I did the upgrade from 10 to 11 and found constant battery drain. I was about to reinstall and not upgrade. I downloaded the Windows 11 ISO and installed, No more battery drain in sleep mode for me.

I had the same exact issue with a brand new business grade Lenovo laptop. My solution was to return it and buy another brand. I find it hard to believe that established brands with the latest hardware and Windows OS would have this kind of drain. Sleep mode is all about sleep which means it’s not supposed to use much power at all.

While I don’t use my MacBook as much as I used to, it would last for about a week in sleep mode if fully charged. I never had to worry about it at all.
