View on Hardcore Software by Steven Sinofsky

Hi Paul,

Was wondering what is your take on the blogs posts by Steven?

I’ve been following his new series about “Hardcore Software” where is he discussing early days of Microsoft, internal tensions, discussions on projects like Cairo.. I am actually enjoying them. His giving some in depth details of the early days of Microsoft.

I know you are not a fan of Sinofsky and how he destroyed the Windows brand with 8, just wondering if you are following his series?

Here’s the link if anyone is interested:

<p>Not yet, but I will do so. Not really looking forward to this: He's full of crap and will be rewriting history to make himself look better.</p>

<p>Ironic that Sinofsky is writing at "Learn by shipping." Maybe he'd be a better fit at "Ship one explosive release and write about how all of your users and critics didn't understand what you were trying to do, then have someone else clean up your mess for years"</p>

Yeah. He should have learned by listening and not by dictating, making tons of horrible mistakes, and not learning a freaking thing. Oh, except that he was out of a job.

<p>Not sure how much you can trust his versions of events. He's a serial bullshitter. Add to it a terrible developer/manager. Windows 8 had some of the biggest pre-release hubbub until that time, and there was so much talk about how people didn't like some of the direction. Asking for a classic Start option, but you had a guy in charge who'd made his executive decision and nobody, especially those pesky customers and end-users had any right to argue.</p><p><br></p><p>And so it went.</p>
