Windows “11.1” ISO

Has there been an updated ISO released since launch or is the latest still the original 11.0? Planning to wipe my PC shortly but will wait until they release an “11.1” with the latest patching.

This might become more necessary after some feature updates. But each monthly set of updates is cumulative, so you’ll only need to install a small set of updates at most. You’ll never really keep up with the monthly updates anyway.

As they don’t include the build-number in the ISO name, it’s difficult to tell. You can either download an ISO directly (they don’t force you to sign-in with a Microsoft Account, as they used to for Windows 10 ISOs), or use the Media Creation Tool.

Once you have installed Windows 11, just install the following to bring it up-to-date (I’m assuming your device has a 64-bit Intel or AMD CPU, not an ARM one):

2021-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5008215)

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 – v5.96 (KB890830)

Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus antimalware platform – KB4052623 (Version 4.18.2111.5)

Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 11 for x64 (KB5007292)

You can download these via the "catalog.update.microsoft.com" site. Start with the top one, as it will update the "Servicing Stack", which can prevent some updates installing. After that, you can do them in any-order. For the "Malicious Software Removal Tool", just do the "Quick Scan" option and let it run-through. It’ll then class as "installed".

If you like you can also go to "microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/defenderupdates" and download the latest virus-definitions for Windows 11’s built-in scanner. Click on "64-bit" after the line "Microsoft Defender Antivirus for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1" (they haven’t updated that page yet to mention Windows 11, but yes, that is the correct one).
