I have noticed a lot of recent Windows hate in the media. I do remember Windows’ shortcomings in the past but most of these issues have been fixed in the past decade or more.

Past Shortcomings

• Random blue screens of death
• Apps locking up and memory leaks
• Security vulnerabilities, viruses, and the lack of a built-in firewall (before XP SP2)
• Internet Explorer’s vulnerabilities and super slow development process
• Hardware limitations and inconsistent updates
• Lack of a proper terminal or Linux tools
• Ugly or goofy user interfaces like Windows 8
• Poor battery life, sleep-mode issues, and loud fans
• Difficult system resets

The Modern Experience

I think Windows 11 and modern processors have addressed these issues.

• An attractive and stable UI
• Excellent battery life on modern processors
• High reliability with almost no system crashes
• Modern browser and terminal options (Edge, WSL, and Windows Terminal)
• Fast and easy factory resets

I use all operating systems from Windows, MacOS, Linux desktop, to headless Linux servers. Windows 11 works well for me. I find Windows 11 stable, consistent, easy to use, and secure. While Apple’s M chips are still superior, the delta is shrinking each year. People often talk about the annoyance of ads, but I don’t see them on my Windows 11 on ARM laptop and old Intel Windows 11 desktop; I am not sure if I figured out how to remove the ads or if I just don’t notice them.
