Yet another bungled update

It’s funny to see people react as if this is a “recent” problem, or that it hasn’t been “since Windows NT SP2”, when even cursory searching will show that practically every update contains a serious problem like this, and has done so for many years running. THIS is why admins wait to deploy updates.
