Tip: Save Big on Xbox One and Xbox 360 Games with Deals with Gold

I previously wrote about how Xbox gamers can get several free games each month if they have an Xbox Live Gold subscription. But there are other perks of this subscription, including a program called Deals with Gold that provides savings of 50 to 75 percent on high-quality Xbox One and Xbox 360 games.

Check out Got Xbox Live Gold? Then Get Free Xbox One and 360 Games Every Month for information about Games for Gold, the program that provides one or more free Xbox One games and two or more free Xbox 360 games each month to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. (The best bit is that you don’t even need to own either console to get the games. That way you can build a great games library before buying an Xbox 360 or Xbox One.)

But Games for Gold is only advantage of the Xbox Live Gold subscription, which has become heavily tilted towards games players since access to entertainment services (Netflix, etc.) and other non-game apps all became part of the free Xbox Live subscription. Deals with Gold is another advantage.

Deals with Gold works a bit like Games for Gold, except that the deals are changed every week instead of every month. So each month, you can save up to 50 to 75 percent off of games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. And many of these games are high-quality AAA titles. So in many cases, it pays to wait: instead of ponying up the full $60 for a new game on release, you can often save a lot of money by buying it a few months later.

Note: Microsoft says that the deals may vary by region. I don’t have a way to easily check what’s available where, so if you’re outside the US, your mileage may vary.

This week’s Deals with Gold offerings provide a good example of the savings.

Xbox One. There are three Xbox One games on sale this week: Assassin’s Creed IV Unity, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams – Director’s Cut. And the prices are pretty incredible. The holiday 2014 blockbuster title Assassin’s Creed Unity is just $40.99, down from the usual $59.99 pricing. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is $29.99, also normally $59.99. And the Giana Sisters title is only $7.99 (normally $14.99).

Xbox 360. You can get even better deals on the 360, with most titles an incredible 75 percent off. Among them are Bully Scholarship Edition, L.A. Noire, Midnight Club LA, Max Payne 3, Max Payne 3 Rockstar Pass, Red Dead Redemption, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

While I do write up each month’s Games for Gold offerings, I’m not sure I can do so for the more prolific Deals with Gold. But if you’re an Xbox gamer with an Xbox Live Gold subscription, this is absolutely something you should be paying attention to.
