Microsoft is bringing back its popular Flight Simulator game. It’s just announced a new instalment to the Flight Simulator series, and the new iteration looks absolutely stunning.

Microsoft hasn’t shared many details about the game, but it will be available for the PC when it launches in 2020. The game will be available in 4K, and it is powered by Microsoft Azure AI.

“Coming 2020, Microsoft Flight Simulator is the next generation of one of the most beloved simulation franchises. From light planes to wide-body jets, fly highly detailed and stunning aircraft in an incredibly realistic world. Create your flight plan and fly anywhere on the planet. Enjoy flying day or night and face realistic, challenging weather conditions,” Microsoft said.

The visuals in the trailer look absolutely amazing, and 2020 couldn’t come soon enough. Take a look.

I loved Microsoft Flight Simulator. I was super bummed when they discontinued it. I can't wait to play it, the graphics look amazing!!!

This is AWESOME!!! But if they kill it again, nobody will convince me to get out of that closet.

Will it be available in Excel?

I was discussing with some friends recently about the "old days" with games like Flight Sim, etc.. Glad to hear about a comeback.

The original Flight Simulator from the early 80's was absolutely stunning for its time. I don't know what sorcery Microsoft used to make a 3D simulation game run on a 4.77 MHz 8088, but they did it. It was also the ultimate test to find out whether a PC clone was 100% compatible with the original IBM PC.

Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit! It looks amazing. Oh man I am excited. I haven't been this excited about a microsoft product since the Windows 7 launch... or Maybe Halo3... no matter. I need to start shopping for a computer or some parts.. to play this.

Surprising. I figured they completely abandoned the space forever. This is brings back some good memories. Xplane while decent just didn’t do it for me.

any mention of VR support ?

Will it come exclusively from the Store, and if so will mods still be possible?

And if it’s powered by Azure AI does that mean it’s online only?

Looks amazing. I'll bet it takes quite the graphics card to look like that.

If your PC ran Flight Simulator back in the day, then you knew it was completely compatible.

Thanks for the rely. Yup, I play it on Steam but a refresh is needed to push it into better performance with newer hardware.

So if we get this, when do we get combat flight simulator?

      In reply to Siv:

That could be a really compelling product. Multiplayer dogfights with maps powered by this new AI engine they are advertising could be really fun.

Hope it supports VR. That would be a tragic ommission.
