April is Going to Be Extra Special for Games with Gold

Each month, Microsoft provides Xbox Live Gold subscribers with free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 via the Games with Gold program. But April is going to be extra special, with double the number of free games on each platform.

As I wrote previously in Got Xbox Live Gold? Then Get Free Xbox One and 360 Games Every Month, anyone with an Xbox Gold Live subscription should add every one of these games to their collection, even if they don’t own either console. That way, if you do get an Xbox One or 360 later, you’ll have a game library waiting.

Here’s how it usually works: Every month, Xbox One owners can download the one game that Microsoft is offering for free. But Xbox 360 users usually get two, with the first offered through the 15th of the month and the second offered for the second half of the month.

April does not follow this schedule. No, April is going to be extra special: this coming month, is doubling up on the free games. So Xbox One will get two free games. And Xbox 360 will get four! Amazing.

Here’s what’s free in the coming month.

Starting Wednesday, April 1 and lasting throughout the month, Xbox One gamers can get Pool Nation FX and Child of Light for free.

pool-nation

Pool Nation FX will retail for $9.99 normally, though it’s not available in the store yet. It is described as “a slick new take on the billiards genre, offering photo-realistic graphics, an absolutely spot-on physics engine, 12 different rule sets including the exclusive Trickshot Editor and the unique rule set customization tool, for ultimate personalization; alongside all the learning aids and professional difficulty levels you could want to help polish your game. Plus, it’s got online multiplayer, so you can take your skills worldwide.”

child-of-light

Child of Light is normally $14.99. It’s “an adventure inspired by fairy tales, the coming-of-age journey of Aurora, the daughter of a duke, who is transported to the fantastic world of Lemuria. Identified as a Child of Light and granted the power of flight, Aurora must fight the dark creatures of the Queen of the Night on her quest to save the sun, the moon, and the stars.”

I am far more excited about the Xbox 360 games.

From April 1 to April 15, Xbox 360 gamers can get Gears of War: Judgment and Terraria. Then, from April 16 through the end of the month, you can snag Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel.

gears

Gears of War: Judgment normally retails for $19.99 and is the fourth installment in the epic Gears series and a sort of prequel as well. There’s a single player campaign plus some cooperative multiplayer modes too.

terraria

Terraria is an old-school side-scroller that normally costs $14.99 and provides both cooperative and head-to-head modes.

asscreed

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is $29.99 normally and was of course a AAA title “set in the Caribbean during the Age of Sail, which adds ship-to-ship combat and plenty of exploration to the Assassin’s Creed stealth-and-action recipe.

armyof2

And Army of TWO: The Devil’s Cartel is a sequel to the third person shooter Army of Two, which I liked quite a bit. This cooperative shooter normally costs $19.99.

April is going to be a great month, especially for Xbox 360 users.
