Amazon Expands Luna Availability in Preview

Amazon’s Luna game streaming service is still in preview, but if you live in the U.S. and own a Fire TV device, you can now try it without first being invited.

“We are excited to extend early access to more Fire TV customers,” Amazon’s Gabi Knight writes. “New customers can download the Luna app on Fire TV and get started with a 7-day free trial to the Luna+ channel. After the free trial, Luna+ channel subscriptions renew at $5.99/month during early access. The Luna+ channel has something for everyone, including hits like Control, Metro Exodus, Sonic Mania, and GRiD. Luna+ has a growing selection of games, with new titles added every month. Customers can sign up for the Ubisoft+ channel for $14.99/month beta pricing and explore premium versions of new titles like Immortals Fenyx Rising and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.”

Additionally, all Amazon customers can now purchase the Luna Controller, which isn’t strictly required but is the preferred way to play Luna games. Previously, you had to have been invited into the Luna early access program to buy the controller.

Those who don’t have a Fire TV can still request an invitation to access Luna as well.

Nice to see Luna expanding to a larger audience. I have no idea how large the Fire TV customer base is in the US, but it is not insignificant.

Side note, Marc Whitten was leading the Luna project and has left to work for Unity. I wouldn't call doom and gloom on Luna, people move around for lots of reasons, though it is a curious move.
