Activision Announces Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will arrive on October 28, Activision announced today. You can preorder now for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

“The sequel to 2019’s blockbuster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is almost here,” Daniel Noel writes in the announcement post. “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will kick off a new era for the franchise when it releases worldwide on Friday, October 28 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.”

Activision has a lot riding on this title given the relative lack of success of the current Call of Duty title, Vanguard, which focuses on World War II. And while it’s a safe bet that this one will perform better, the firm isn’t taking any chances: COD:MW2 will include a single player campaign that continues the narrative from its predecessor, an evolved Special Ops tactical co-op experience, and a next generation multiplayer experience with new ways to play, numerous gameplay innovations, more customization, and “an incredible post-release calendar set to include a massive amount of free post-launch content drops featuring new maps, modes, and blockbuster special events that can’t be missed.” There will also be “an all-new, dynamic Warzone experience” for battle royale fans.

Those who preorder COD:MW2 now at the Xbox Store or via the in-game Franchise Store in Warzone, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, or Modern Warfare (2019) will get Open Beta Early Access. Beta-specific dates and details will be revealed in the coming weeks. COD:MW2 will be made available in a cross-gen bundle for $69.99 and a special Vault edition that receives extra perks.

irs Been a while since I played COD, but wasn’t MW2 released years ago? I’m sure I remember it has an awesome single player campaign. Is this a remake?

It’s more of a reboot, as with MW2019, but with a "modern setting" and new storyline.
