Atari announced today that it has acquired over 100 classic Accolade, Infogrames, and Microprose games from the 1980s and 1990s along with the trademarks of the Accolade and GTI brands.

“This is a deep catalog that includes groundbreaking and award-winning titles from Accolade, Infogrames, and Microprose,” Atari CEO Wade Rosen says. “Many of these titles are a part of Atari history, and fans can look forward to seeing many of these games re-released in physical and digital formats, and in some cases, even ported to modern consoles.”

The collection includes games from the popular Bubsy, Hardball, and Demolition Racer franchises, as well as the 1942: Pacific Air War, F-117A, and F-14 air combat series. Atari says it will expand the digital and physical distribution of these classic titles, create new games based on the intellectual property, and explore brand and merchandising collaborations.

Atari also acquired the trademark to the Accolade and GTI brands. Accolade was created in 1984 by former Activision co-founders Alan Miller and Bob Whitehead, both of whom had worked at Atari previously; Accolade was later renamed to Infogrames. GTI (GT Interactive) was founded in 1993 and partnered with Id Software on the retail releases of DOOM II and Quake. It was acquired by Infogrames in 1999.

The acquisitions are part of Atari’s strategy to expand its videogame business by leveraging its catalog of classic titles and bringing new games to market. This will include “reinventing old classics, reimagining storylines, and developing entirely new narratives inspired by the games that set the course for an entire industry.”
