Microsoft Unveils New Xbox Dashboard Shipping Soon to Insiders

Microsoft has just put the wraps off a new Xbox dashboard experiment that will ship to select Xbox Insiders this week. This redesigned dashboard took into account the feedback the Xbox team received about the previous experimental dashboard design that Microsoft recently pulled.

“As we mentioned when we paused our experiments last month, we heard you tell us that the changes to the top of Home felt crowded and didn’t leave enough space for you to enjoy your background. So, we designed hundreds of options, then refined with prototypes and finally user-tested in our Research labs until we found one we hope you’ll love. It balances the experience, accessibility, function, and the needs of our community,” the Xbox team said today.

The new Xbox Home design, which you can see at the top of this article, adds a new quick access menu at the top of the dashboard with shortcuts to your game library, the Microsoft Store, the Xbox Game Pass page, Search, and Settings. The general layout also gives more room to the background, which will now dynamically change when you hover over your different game tiles in the first row.

While this isn’t visible in this image, the “Browse your games” tab, which was previously named “My games & apps”, will now display updates regarding your library or the Microsoft Store. As an example, it may show users if a game they have wishlisted on the Store is on sale.

This new Xbox dashboard experiment will ship first to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings this week. “Your feedback is a key part of our process, and our team will continue to work hard to tweak and grow these experiences based on what we hear from you,” the Xbox team said today.
