Microsoft Starts Testing Voice Reporting Feature on Xbox

Xbox voice reporting

Microsoft is working on a new voice reporting feature on Xbox that will let gamers easily capture and report any inappropriate in-game voice conversations. If you ever played Call of Duty or any other competitive game, you’ve probably had some bad experiences when using in-game chat with random players.

“When we looked at the next important step in our safety innovation, our team targeted in-game chat because it is often the place where players have the highest opportunity to interact with players outside of their friend network. Making the feature available across Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One ensures that players have this feature available to them in any multiplayer in-game chat,” Microsoft explained today.

In practice, this new voice reporting feature will let Xbox players capture the last 60 seconds of gameplay including potentially inappropriate in-game voice conversations (voice reporting won’t work with Xbox party chat). These clips won’t appear alongside their regular captures and clips, and they will only be available for 24 hours. They also cannot be edited, downloaded, or shared with anyone else except for the Xbox safety team.

After submitting a report, Xbox players will be notified about whether the Xbox team chose to take any action on the submitted incident. Overall, this new voice reporting feature should help to ensure that all players respect Xbox Community Standards, which is certainly no easy task. “This feature is one of many we are working on, the first in our voice moderation work, and we look forward to sharing more in the future,” the Xbox team said today.

The company will start testing this new voice reporting feature this week with Xbox Insiders on the Alpha and Alpha-skip ahead rings. At launch, it will only be available in select English-language markets including the US, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
