Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is Coming on November 10

Call of Duty Modern Warfare III

Activision revealed today that the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The game will be released on November 10 on PC and consoles, and it may be the first Call of Duty game to be released under Microsoft’s umbrella if the company manages to complete its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in the coming weeks.

Activision has multiple studios working on Call of Duty games, and Sledgehammer Games developed the first two games in this rebooted Modern Warfare trilogy released in 2019 and 2022, respectively. It’s quite unusual that Modern Warfare III will follow just a year after the previous episode, but Activision may want to play it safe after Vanguard, the WW2-themed episode released in 2021 didn’t really woo Call of Duty fans.

Call of Duty remains one of the most successful annualized game franchises on the market, and Modern Warfare III should be no exception. It also helps that Warzone 2.0, the free-to-play battle royale version of Call of Duty now serves as a good entry point to the Call of Duty universe.

In recent weeks, Call of Duty has been one of the main subjects of conversations regarding Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Microsoft signed a Call of Duty deal with Sony to guarantee that future games will continue to ship on PlayStation consoles over the next 10 years. Microsoft also signed a Call of Duty deal with Nintendo and promised to bring back the franchise to the company’s consoles.

In addition to these deals with its competitors on the console market, Microsoft also signed cloud licensing deals with Nvidia GeForce Now, Boosteroid, and Ubitus to make Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games available on these cloud gaming services. While we should finally see the conclusion of the Microsoft/Activision Blizzard acquisition saga very soon, it already looks like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III could be a pretty special release.
