The Making of Karateka Interactive Documentary is Now Available

The Making of Karateka

The Digital Eclipse interactive documentary The Making of Karateka is now available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. (The Switch version is North America only, but versions for Europe, Australia, and Asia arrive next week.)

Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner was a college student when he created one of the biggest-selling games of 1984: Karateka,” the description of the Xbox version of the title notes. “Now, in a new interactive documentary from Digital Eclipse, the story of how a teenager with an Apple II created one of the most groundbreaking, influential games of all time.”

This stunning package includes an archive of documents, playable prototypes, and all-new video features accessing via an interactive timeline, pixel-perfect versions of the original Karateka games and early prototypes like Deathbounce: Rebounded (with new life features like save anywhere, rewind, chapter select, and director’s commentary), an all-new version of the game called Karateka Remastered that features content, commentary, achievements, and more, and other content. It costs $19.99 on each platform.

This release is the first in a series of Digital Eclipse’s new Gold Master Series, which will archive video game history in interactive form. The new title in the Gold Master Series, as yet unidentified, will ship in Q4 2023. Those interested in learning more can sign up for a free newsletter.
