Sony’s Annual PlayStation Plus Plans Are Getting More Expensive in September

PlayStation Plus Essential Extra Premium

After Microsoft raised the price of some of its Game Pass subscriptions in July, Sony has just announced upcoming price increases for its annual PlayStation Plus plans. And the bad news is that even the base Essential annual plan will become 33% more expensive very soon.

Sony buried the news today in the blog post announcing its new PlayStation Plus games for September. “Starting September 6 we will be increasing the price for PlayStation Plus 12-month subscriptions globally across all benefit plans. This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service,” the company explained.

Here’s what you can expect for 12-month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in the US:

PlayStation Plus Essential: $79.99 (previously $59.99, up 33%)

PlayStation Plus Extra: $134.99 (previously $99.99, up 35%)

PlayStation Plus Premium: $159.99 (previously $119.99, up 33%).

Sony emphasized that these new annual prices for PlayStation Plus are still more advantageous compared to 1-month or 3-month subscriptions. As an example, PlayStation Plus Essential costs $9.99/month, which will cost you $120 a year if you don’t opt for the $79.99 annual subscription.

Current PlayStation Plus members with an annual subscription will be affected by these price increases if their next renewal date comes on or after September 6. Sony also emphasized that “any membership changes you make on or after September 6, such as upgrades, downgrades or buying additional time, will update your plan reflecting the new prices.”
