Xbox Series S Carbon Black With 1TB of Storage is Now Available

Xbox Series S Carbon Black

Microsoft is launching a “Carbon Black” version of its Xbox Series S with 1TB of storage today. The new console was first announced at Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase in June, and it’s priced at $349.99 on the Microsoft Store.

“Our new 1TB Series S incorporates Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) resins, mirroring the practice established in 2021 with our white Series S in a new color. The bold Carbon Black color is the same sleek, modern matte finish as Xbox Series X and the Xbox Wireless Controller,” the Xbox team said today.

Microsoft did release a new ad for this new Xbox Series S Carbon Black that features Starfield, Diablo IV, and the upcoming Forza Motorsport and Phantom Liberty add-on for Cyberpunk 2077.

The regular white Xbox Series S with just 512GB of storage (that’s actually just 362GB of usable storage still remains available at $299.99. The black version with twice the storage is quite a good deal as you’ll get more room to run current-gen games, which sometimes require over 100GB of storage. As an example, Starfield, which is now available in early access on Xbox and PC, takes 107GB of storage on the Series S.

The Xbox Series S still remains the cheapest current-gen console on the market, with the PS5 Digital Edition being $100 more expensive at $399. It’s also the smallest current-gen console with a pretty classic form factor that won’t look weird under your TV.

Even though the Series S is often being accused of “holding back” current-gen games due to its lower specs, the console can run demanding games like Microsoft Flight Simulator or the freshly-released Starfield just fine. Just don’t expect to see fancy 4K graphics as the console wasn’t designed for that.
