Now You Can Buy Some Individual Games on Amazon Luna

Amazon announced today that it will now allow customers to buy some individual games on Luna instead of requiring a subscription. It’s starting by expanding its partnership with Ubisoft+.

“With today’s launch, Luna is taking a big step forward to becoming a one-stop shop for Ubisoft games, enabling customers to purchase their favorite games on Luna,” Team Luna writes in the announcement post. “Customers can now search for a specific game, like The Crew Motorfest, and purchase that game directly within Luna using their Amazon account and linking their Ubisoft account.”

Amazon launched its Luna game streaming service three years ago this month, if you can believe that, and it has steadily improved it with a variety of new features and games, and by bringing it to more and more devices. And in December 2022, it added the ability for customers to connect their Ubisoft+ account to Luna, expanding the access to the games they get from that service to Luna.

Now, those customers who connect any Ubisoft account to Luna can purchase Ubisoft titles like those in the Assassin’s Creed, Fire Cry, and Watch Dogs franchises directly in Luna, and doing so will let them play those games, in perpetuity, via the Luna service or the PC via the Ubisoft Connect Launcher on PC. And regardless of where they play these games, their in-game process and purchases will sync to their Ubisoft account. To be clear, this does not require a paid Ubisoft+ subscription.

This is a nice bit of cross-platform integration and a nice hedge if you’re worried that Amazon may one day pull a Stadia. Luna users can buy Ubisoft games directly and can link their Ubisoft account and gain access to any previously purchased Ubisoft games (and, if they have Ubisoft+, access all those games on Luna too). And existing Ubisoft customers can sign up for Luna and access all their games in the cloud in addition to the PC.

You can learn more about Luna on the Amazon website. You can also sync your Ubisoft account to Luna there.
