Microsoft Announces Xbox Developer_Direct Event on January 18

Xbox Developer Direct January 2024

Microsoft has just announced another Developer_Direct livestream on January 18 that will focus on a couple of much-anticipated Xbox-exclusive games. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, which had an impressive new trailer at The Game Awards last month will be back, but you can also expect to see the new Indiana Jones games from Machine Games, Obsidian’s Avowed, and Ara: History Untold from Oxide Games.

Regarding the Indiana Jones games, Microsoft promises “more than 10 minutes of game and developer insights, including details about the game’s setting and story, how fans will actually play as Indy, additional details from his next globe-trotting adventure, and the premiere of the first gameplay trailer.” Sony had great success with its 3 exclusive Spiderman games on PlayStation consoles, and it will be interesting to see if Microsoft can enjoy the same level of momentum with such a beloved IP.

Obsidian Entertainment, the developer of Fallout New Vegas and The Outer Worlds has also been working on Avowed for years, and the developer will offer a deep dive into the gameplay of the upcoming fantasy action RPG. As for Hellblade II, Microsoft has been teasing the game since 2019, and it’s expected to be one of the best-looking games to be released on Xbox Series X|S consoles.

The Xbox Developer_Direct will air at 12pm PT / 3pm ET on on January 18, and the team warned that there won’t be any updates on games from Activision Blizzard. The event will also be followed by The Elder Scrolls Online 2024 Global Reveal at 1pm PT / 4pm ET, which will be dedicated to the game’s next major chapter.

Last year, Microsoft used its first Developer_Direct event to shadow-drop the Xbox-exclusive game Hi-Fi Rush, which received critical acclaim. Recent rumors suggest that Microsoft could be porting this game to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch consoles, and as Xbox fans are becoming increasingly concerned about the future of Xbox exclusives, the company may well need to set clear expectations regarding its game output.
