Microsoft and Activision confirmed today that the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 reveal is the previously-redacted Direct broadcast that will follow the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. It’s now official that Call of Duty is going back to the Black Ops sub-series following the release of Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

A first teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has also been published, and it features a mysterious group covering Mount Rushmore with banners displaying “The Truth Lies.” Activision is also inviting fans to check out thetruthlies.com for future updates about the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be the first game in the series to be released after Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Last year’s episode, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, received not-so-great reviews, with most of the criticism focusing on the lackluster single-player campaign. Hopefully, Activision will have taken the feedback into account.

Last year, Microsoft aired a Starfield Direct right after its Xbox Games Showcase, and Call of Duty will get the same treatment this year. This will pretty much establish Call of Duty as one of Microsoft’s biggest gaming franchises, even though unlike Starfield, Black Ops 6 won’t be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem.

Lastly, Black Ops 6 is expected to be the first Call of Duty game to be released on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on day one. This has been a long time coming, but it would be surprising if Microsoft doesn’t announce more Activision Blizzard games coming to Game Pass during its Xbox Games Showcase next month.
