Bethesda Teases The Elder Scrolls IV Remaster Announcement Tomorrow

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion

Xbox and Bethesda are set to announce a remaster of the critically-acclaimed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion tomorrow, April 22. The remaster, which has already leaked, will be announced during a livestream that will kick off at 8 AM PT/11 AM ET on Twitch and YouTube.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was originally released in March 2006 on PC and Xbox 360, and a PlayStation 3 version followed a year later. If the Xbox 360 version of the game is backwards compatible and enhanced on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, the remaster will likely be released on modern PlayStation and Nintendo consoles as well. This would be consistent with Microsoft’s moves to make its games available on more platforms.

Oblivion probably isn’t as fondly remembered as its successor, Skyrim, which was re-released in the form of an “Anniversary Edition” on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles back in 2021. However, it’s an important game in Bethesda’s history as its success allowed the studio to work on Fallout 3, another RPG gem from the Xbox 360/PS3 era.

As the release of The Elder Scrolls VI is probably still years away, it’s a good thing to bring a cult-classic episode like Oblivion to modern audiences. Xbox players also get to play the backwards-compatible OG Xbox version of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, but it would be quite surprising to see Bethesda give the 2002 game the remaster treatment after Oblivion.
