Minecraft Bedrock Edition Drops Virtual and Mixed Reality Support

Minecraft Virtual Mixed Reality

Minecraft Bedrock Edition can no longer be played with virtual reality headsets.  As spotted by PCWorld, the latest update for the cross-platform version of the game has dropped support for both virtual reality and mixed reality gameplay.

Developer Mojang Studios announced its plans to remove support for VR headsets back in October, so this isn’t really a surprise. “Our ability to support VR/MR devices has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025,” the company said at the time.

Well, killing off VR/MR support in Minecraft Bedrock Edition took a bit longer than expected, but there’s still a way to play the sandbox game in VR: Vivecraft, a popular third-party mod for the Java Edition of the game supports SteamVR-compatible headsets and enables full roomscale support and seated play.

While Minecraft just dropped support for virtual and mixed reality headsets, the nearly 14-year-old game is finally getting a graphical update. The upcoming Vibrant Visual update, which was announced back in March, will add directional lighting, volumetric fog, reflections, shadows, and other modern graphical effects to the game. It will be coming first to select Minecraft: Bedrock Edition devices, with the Java Edition of the game next in line.
