Xbox Exclusive Hellblade II is Coming to PlayStation 5 This Summer

Hellblade II Senua's Saga PlayStation 5

Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga is the next Xbox-exclusive game that will be coming to PlayStation 5 consoles. Developer Ninja Theory revealed today that the PlayStation 5 port will be released this summer with some “exciting new features.” Xbox and PC players won’t be left behind as the game will also be updated with the same new features at the same time.

It’s been exactly a year since Hellblade II was released on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass. It’s the game Microsoft picked up for its Xbox Series X announcement at the Game Awards ceremony back in December 2019, and it received immediate praise for its photorealistic graphics.

Hellblade II is the second game released by Ninja Theory following its acquisition by Microsoft back in 2018. It followed Bleeding Edge, a poorly-received multiplayer online battle arena game that was released on Xbox and PC back in 2020. Since Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, the first game in the Hellblade series, was also released on PlayStation consoles, it really makes sense for Ninja Theory to release its successor on PlayStation 5.

Despite being one of the most anticipated games of 2024, Hellblade II received a more polarized reception than its predecessor. Several critics pointed out its very linear structure, repetitive puzzles, and simplified combat compared to the previous game (you’ll only be able to fight one enemy at once during the entire game). Hellblade II is also a very short game that I personally finished in approximately 5 hours.

It will be interesting to see what kind of new features Ninja Theory will introduce to this new “Enhanced Edition.” Hellblade II was locked to 30 FPS on Xbox Series X|S consoles, but maybe there will be a new 60 FPS Performance mode on the PlayStation 5 Pro. An option to remove the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, introduced for cinematic purposes, would also be welcome.
