Xbox 360 Consoles Are Getting a New Dashboard Update

Xbox 360 Store

Microsoft has quietly released a new dashboard update for the Xbox 360 nearly a year after shutting down the console’s digital game store. As first reported by True Achievements, the new update fixes an issue with game thumbnails appearing stretched out on the home page, but it also adds an ad for Xbox Series X|S consoles.

This new update may be rolling out in stages, as I haven’t seen it yet on my old Xbox 360 console. It’s also not listed yet on the official Xbox support page that lists software updates for the Xbox 360. This page still indicates that the last update was released in November 2019, which is what I’m currently running on my own Xbox 360.

When Microsoft shut down the Xbox 360 digital store last year, the console’s dashboard stopped showing ads for games and Xbox Live Gold. With this new dashboard update, however, there’s now a single ad for Xbox Series X|S consoles with a QR code that gamers can scan to get more information about the current-gen consoles.

The Xbox 360 remains the best-selling Xbox console with over 84 million units sold, and it’s nice to see Microsoft still supporting it after almost 20 years. The company also continues to support Xbox One consoles, which run the same operating system as current-gen Xbox Series X|S consoles.
