Sony announced today the beta release of a new PlayStation 5 system update that will make it possible to pair DualSense controllers to multiple devices at once. A new Power Saver mode for PS5 games is also coming soon to lower power consumption on titles that will support the feature.
With the new beta update, DualSense controllers will be able to connect to up to four devices simultaneously, including multiple PS5 consoles, PCs, and phones and tablets. “For example, you can take your controller which you use with your PS5, then seamlessly switch connection to a PC to play PC games, or connect it to a smartphone to enjoy Remote Play from your PS5,” the company explained.
Players will be able to pair their controllers to multiple devices by pressing and holding the PS button, then one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square) to assign a device to one of four possible slots. Switching between devices will be done by pressing the PS button and one of the four action buttons.
As for the new Power Saver mode for games, it’s part of Sony’s plan to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. When enabled, the feature will “scale back performance” on supported games, and some gameplay features may be limited. VR Mode will also be unavailable when Power Saver is active.
Sony plans to share more details about this Power Saver mode closer to launch. The company is reportedly working on a PlayStation 5 handheld, so it makes sense for the PlayStation team to look into ways to reduce power consumption for PS5 games.
