The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 got its gameplay reveal today during gamescom Opening Night Live, and Activision needed to hit hard following all the positive buzz that EA’s Battlefield 6 received in recent days. Well, Black Ops 7 will be released on November 14, 2025, five weeks after Battlefield 6, and one of the biggest changes is the new co-op campaign.
The game is the sequel to last year’s Black Ops 6, and it’s set in the coastal city of Avalon. The campaign will support co-op with up to four players, and there’s also a new global progression system that will allow players to earn XP for the game’s multiplayer mode. “For the first time, every elimination, objective, and breakthrough in the Co-Op Campaign fuels your growth, contributing directly to Global XP,” the Xbox team explained.
The endgame will also take the form of a new multiplayer experience designed for up to 32 players who will have unlocked special abilities throughout the campaign. “You’ll be able to select Operators in addition to the four main Campaign characters, craft custom Loadouts, and level up your Combat Rating as you take on new challenges in Avalon. We’ve never done anything like this before. It’s built to be the perfect place to jump in with friends, continue your global progression, and truly test yourselves after everything you’ve been through,” the blog post reads.
Regarding multiplayer, the game will launch with 16 6v6 maps (including classic Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 maps) and 2 20v20 maps designed for a new mode called Skirmish. Black Ops 6’s Omnimovement system, which lets players sprint in any direction, will be making a comeback, with some tweaks such as new Wall Jump and Combat Roll abilities. Lastly, Black Ops 7 will also offer a Zombie mode with “the biggest Round-Based Zombies map ever” and the return of Survival Maps.
Just like last year’s episode, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will support Xbox Play Anywhere and be available on day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The game is also being released on last-gen consoles in addition to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, the Xbox app on PC, Battle.net, and Steam.
