Microsoft is partnering with LG to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to select cars that use LG’s webOS Automotive Content Platform (ACP). In these Internet-connected vehicles equipped with LG’s in-cabin entertainment solution, passengers will be able to stream games from the same Xbox app that’s already available on LG smart TVs.

“Whether you’re jumping back into an old favorite or discovering something completely new, Xbox Cloud Gaming and LG Electronics transforms your vehicle’s infotainment system into more than just music and movies – it becomes a full entertainment hub,” the Xbox team said today. “Whether you’re waiting at an EV charging station or trying to entertain your passengers on an extended road trip, pass the time by playing games keeping everyone entertained and making the journey feel more fun.”

Accessing Xbox Cloud Gaming in cars connected to the Internet with LG’s webOS platform will require a Game Pass subscription, an automotive data plan, and a Bluetooth-enabled controller. Obviously, drivers and passengers will also need to respect driving safety regulations.

LG’s webOS ACP platform is currently available within select Kia vehicles such as the new EV3. In addition to the Xbox app and other gaming apps, the entertainment platform also provides access to video streaming, music, and location-based services.

This expansion of Xbox Cloud Gaming to cars reflects Microsoft’s ambition to make Xbox games available on any device. Earlier this month, the company also made its cloud gaming service available on the Game Pass Core and Standard tiers, with subscribers now being able to stream cloud-enabled games included with their subscription, as well as select Xbox games they own.
