Report Highlights Best Selling Videogames of 2025

A new report from Sensor Tower dives deep into 2025 videogame sales and reveals some fascinating data about a historic year.

“Battlefield 6 is the best-selling PC/console game of 2025, in a market with titans like Call of Duty and Fortnite and a year with other massive launches like Delta Force and Marvel Rivals,” the report notes. “The number two and three best-selling PC/Console games of 2025, R.E.P.O. and PEAK, outsold AAA titles with huge budgets and audiences. GTA 6 will be the culmination of this trend.”

There is a ton of interesting and often unexpected data in this report. Some of the key findings include:

  • PC gaming had a record year, with Steam, units sold, and premium game revenue all reaching new highs and growth lead by AAA and AA action titles.
  • Steam revenues hit $11.7 billion in 2025, up 13 percent year-over-year (YOY). Apple App Store games revenues were over $50 billion and Google Play Store games revenues were about $30 billion.
  • Publishers released over 225,000 game titles in 2025, with 617 new games arriving per day last year.
  • There were 52.2 billion game downloads on mobile compared to 2 billion on PCs and consoles combined.
  • Of the 50 billion mobile game downloads, 42.4 billion were on Android and 7.8 billion were on iPhone and iPad.
  • Of the 2 billion PC/console game downloads, 546 million were on Xbox, 626 million were on PlayStation, and 857 million were on PC.
  • The top genres on PC/console were Action, RPG, Shooter, Simulation, and Strategy.
  • The top genres on mobile were Strategy, RPG, Puzzle, Casino, and Simulation.
  • Roblox was by far the most popular cross-platform title across all platforms, followed by EA Sports FC, PUBG, Call of Duty, and Minecraft.
  • The top “breakout” games (with revenue over $100,000 on day one) of 2025 were Kingshot, SD Gundam G Generational Eternal, Vampyr: Heir of Blood, Maplestory: Idle RPG, and Valorant Mobile.
  • Tencent is the number one game publisher on mobile by revenues, followed by Hasbro, Nintendo, FIFPro, and Microsoft.
  • For the first time ever, consumers spent more on in-app mobile game purchases ($85.6 billion) than in-app mobile app purchases ($81.8 billion).
  • As noted, Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game of the year overall, but Fortnite remains the top game on PC/console by player base, followed by Counter-Strike 2 (!), Minecraft, GTA V Legacy, and Call of Duty.
  • Remakes and remasters were huge in 2025, with Delta Force, ARK: Survival Ascended, Metro 2023 Redux, The Last of Us, Part 1, and Resident Evil 4 the leading remakes by downloads and remastered versions of GTA V Enhanced, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition the leading remasters by downloads.
  • The top shooters on PC/console by downloads were Marvel Rivals, Battlefield 6, Delta Force, ARC Raiders, and Call of Duty.
  • The top shooters on PC/console by monthly average users (MAUs) were Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, Call of Duty, PUBG, and Battlefield 6.

Interesting stuff, including some evidence in there that Xbox isn’t as doomed as many believe.
