Starfield Will Land on PlayStation 5 on April 7

Starfield, one of the biggest Xbox exclusive games of this console generation, is coming to PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026. The PS5 release will come with specific enhancements for Sony’s consoles, but there’s also a big ‘Free Lanes’ update and a new story DLC coming to all platforms.

You may remember that one of the reasons Microsoft acquired Bethesda/Zenimax was concerns over Sony possibly striking a temporary exclusivity deal for Starfield, which happened before with previous Bethesda games like Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo. Well, Starfield wasn’t the huge hit Microsoft needed to compete with the critically-acclaimed exclusives from PlayStation and Nintendo, so it’s not too surprising to see it land on PlayStation 5 a little more than two years after its Xbox/PC release.

“Starfield takes advantage of the DualSense controller with adaptive triggers that are unique to different types of weapons, including your starship weapons; light bar indications of your health and your ship’s health; touchpad shortcuts for switching POVs and pulling up your map and hand scanner; and more,” Bethesda explained today. On the PlayStation 5 Pro, Starfield will also offer an enhanced 4K/30FPS Visual mode and a 60 FPS Performance offering improved graphical fidelity.

The new Free Lanes update that’s coming to all platforms on April 17 will add the ability to freely fly between planets in a star system. The update also adds new space encounters and an additional resource to customize weapons, gear, and even your ships. Additionally, players will find new options for upgrading their Starborn abilities and bringing their gear with the New Game+ mode.

As for the new Terran Armada story DLC, it will be priced at $9.99 and take players to the Incursion system, with highly advanced robot enemies, a new Companion, and more to discover. The new DLC is included in the $69.99 Starfield Premium Edition, which also features the game’s first Shattered Space DLC.
