Asha Sharma, the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming, teased today a new partnership with Discord that will soon benefit Game Pass subscribers. It looks like Microsoft may add a permanent Discord perk to its subscription service after offering temporary Discord Nitro codes to Game Pass members in recent years.
“For years, Xbox and Discord have worked together to make it easier for players to connect, chat, and play across devices. We’re teaming up again as we continue to make Game Pass more flexible for our players. Some of you might start to see some code in the wild, and we will share more details with you all soon,” Sharma posted on X earlier today.

In recent years, Discord has become the most popular social app among gamers, and Microsoft even tried to replicate the features of Discord servers in its Teams for consumer app, with little success. Discord is already deeply integrated into the Xbox OS, allowing gamers to seamlessly join Discord voice chats and stream games on Discord servers from their console.
Discord currently offers two different subscriptions: the $2.99/month Nitro Basic plan with enhanced file uploads and custom emojis & stickers, and the $9.99/month Nitro plan with HD streaming, advanced profile customization options, and more. As I mentioned earlier, Microsoft regularly offers limited-time Discord Nitro codes to Game Pass members. Still, the company may now want to elevate Discord Nitro as another Game Pass Ultimate perk, along with EA Play, Ubisoft+ Classics, and Fortnite Crew.
It remains to be seen if Microsoft can really convince Discord Nitro users to subscribe to Game Pass for even more benefits. Anyway, after the Xbox team recently discontinued user-created social clubs on consoles, it probably makes sense to push Discord even harder on Xbox gamers.
