Sony Announces PlayStation Plus Price Increases

PlayStation Plus

Sony just announced that it will raise the price of its PlayStation Plus subscriptions in select regions on May 20. The price hikes will affect 1-month and 3-month PS Plus Essential subscriptions, which will cost $1 and $3 more in the US, respectively.

The company cited “ongoing market conditions” for the price increases, but said that current subscribers won’t be affected, except in Turkey and India. Subscribers will need to pay more if their existing subscription changes or lapses, however.

Here are the new prices for the PlayStation Plus Essential tier that will come into effect on May 20:

US:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential 1-month: $10.99 (currently $9.99)
  • PlayStation Plus Essential 3-month: $27.99 (currently $24.99)

UK:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential 1-month: £7.99 (currently £6.99)
  • PlayStation Plus Essential 3-month: $21.99 (currently £19.99)

EU:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential 1-month: €9.99 (currently €8.99)
  • PlayStation Plus Essential 3-month: €27.99 EUR (currently €24.99)

Sony’s PlayStation Plus Essential tier provides access to online multiplayer, exclusive discounts, cloud storage, new games to claim every month, plus exclusive content for select free-to-play games. The company didn’t announce price increases for the more expensive Extra and Premium tiers, however.

These PlayStation Plus price hikes come a little more than a month after Sony raised the price of its PlayStation 5 consoles around the world due to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” In the US, the PS5 now starts at $599.99 for the Digital Edition, while the version with a disc drive is now priced at $649.99. Both models now cost $100 more, while the more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro now costs a whooping $899 (up from $749.99).
