Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4

Activision pulled the wraps off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 today, with a first-look trailer showing a gritty campaign set after a large-scale attack by North Korea. The game will be released on October 23, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 coming later this year. And yes, last-gen PS4 and Xbox One consoles are finally being left behind.

“The Campaign drops players into trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-octane chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and city-wide assaults to reclaim occupied territory,” Activision said today. If players will fight as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier, Captain Price, a familiar face from previous Modern Warfare episodes, will also make his comeback in the campaign.

In terms of gameplay, Activision promises “the most authentic Modern Warfare gunplay yet,” with updated weapon handling and movement systems, refined depth-of-field and visual effects, and the removal of bloom. The game will launch with 12 maps, “each with a custom infil and distinct visual identity.” A new class system will also unify Operators, weapons, Equipment, and Killstreaks, and players will also be able to unlock “Apex Attachments”, which are unique modifications obtained by progressing weapons.

By dropping support for last-gen consoles, developer Infinity Ward managed to create “the most immersive and technically advanced Call of Duty ever built.” The developer promised PC-specific performance optimizations with DLSS 4.5 support and additional upscaling and frame generation options. Players will also experience “larger combat spaces, more active worlds, clearer engagements, and more consistent moment-to-moment performance” across all platforms.

Due to Modern Warfare 4 only shipping on PC and current-gen consoles, Call of Duty: Warzone will no longer be playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after the launch of Modern Warfare’s Season 1 later this year. The game will be removed from the PS4 and Xbox One digital stores on June 4, and the Warzone in-game store will also be removed on June 25.

Activision plans to share more details about Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ extraction mode on June 7. Pre-orders for the game will open today on Xbox, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, and Steam, and the Xbox version will support Xbox Play Anywhere. As a reminder, in exchange for a price drop for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare won’t be launching on Game Pass on day one.
