Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Early Access Beta to Kick off on August 21

Activision detailed today the dates for the upcoming betas for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The early access beta will be on August 21-25 for people who pre-order the game, and it will be followed by an open beta beginning on August 28 and ending on September 1.

The game’s early access beta will be available only on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 players will need to wait until the open beta the following weekend. On August 21, just before the early access beta kicks off, Activision will also broadcast a Call of Duty: Next livestream to share more details about the upcoming game.

As a reminder, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will skip last-gen consoles entirely, and it will be the first episode to ship on a Nintendo console since the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U back in 2013. The game will be released on October 23, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, and this time, it won’t be available on Game Pass on day one.

Over the weekend, we also learned that the upcoming Call of Duty movie, set for release in theaters on June 30, 2028, will be set in the Modern Warfare universe. This is probably the best choice after the latest Black Ops episodes introduced some paranormal elements that didn’t resonate really well with longtime Call of Duty fans.
