Xbox Remote Play, the feature that allows Xbox gamers to stream games installed on their console on other devices, is getting a quality upgrade. Starting today, Xbox Insiders on the Alpha and Alpha-Skip Ahead rings will be able to test streaming games at 1440p quality instead of the current 1080p experience.
Streaming games with a higher resolution and increased video bitrate will require an Xbox Series X|S console with a display resolution set to 1440p or 4K, as well as a device that supports the improved quality. “If your streaming quality is set to Auto, Remote Play will automatically select the highest resolution and bitrate your device and network connection can support, regardless of the resolution shown in the setting,” the Xbox team explained.
Unlike Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox Remote Play requires no Game Pass subscription, and there’s also no usage cap. It also works with all installed games, while the list of cloud-enabled games on Xbox Cloud Gaming depends on Microsoft’s licensing agreements with game publishers.
Microsoft is rolling out other new features today to Xbox Insiders on the aforementioned rings, including the ability to choose their Xbox startup animations, the badges displayed on their Xbox profiles, and a new Voice Clarity feature for Xbox Party Chat. The latter will be enabled by default in most games released since 2020, and it should help to reduce background noise when chatting with other party members.
Microsoft continues to roll out new Xbox console features at a regular pace, and more improvements are on the way to improve the reliability and security of parties. «”These changes happen behind the scenes, but your feedback will help us ensure everything is working as expected,” the team said today
