Microsoft revealed today a smaller Xbox Nano Controller designed for younger players and people looking for a pocketable gamepad. It includes all standard buttons and a replaceable battery, and with a $49.99 launch price, Microsoft hopes that it will be more accessible to a new generation of players.
The Xbox Nano Controller is Microsoft’s smallest controller ever, as it’s just over 5 inches in length, making it shorter than most current smartphones. Despite the built-in battery, it also weighs just 3.5 ounces, which makes it easy to carry around.
“It’s an easier way to be ready for games the whole family can play together, like Minecraft Dungeons II, where up to four heroes can team up for local co-op in the living room or online,” the Xbox team said today. “The pocketable design also makes it easy to slip into a bag or bring along for the day, giving you a convenient way to play whether you’re traveling, visiting friends and family, or simply taking games like Forza Horizon 6 beyond the living room.”
This new Nano controller offers the same 18 gameplay inputs and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity seen on regular Xbox controllers. It’s available for pre-order today and will start shipping in select markets in November. In the US, Microsoft has teamed up with Samsung and Meta to bundle the new controller and 2 months of Game Pass Ultimate with select Samsung TVs and Meta Quest headsets.
As you may know, Microsoft’s Xbox Elite Series 3 controller has already leaked, and an official announcement is likely coming soon. We’re just a month away from the 25th anniversary of Xbox, and it will be interesting to see if the company has other hardware surprises for Xbox fans.
