Microsoft Delivers Flight Simulator World Update VI

Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update VI provides more detailed scenery in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, and it’s free.

“Our vision is to continuously improve and expand Microsoft Flight Simulator on a regular basis,” Microsoft’s Jorg Neumann writes. “This month, the virtual world of Microsoft Flight Simulator is getting its next major update by focusing on the marvelous regions of Austria, Germany & Switzerland. Renowned for its glorious mountain ranges, ubiquitous castles, and stunning vistas, this region comes to life with World Update VI.”

More specifically, World Update VI provides new aerial imagery, high-resolution elevation maps, and several brand-new 3D cities in Germany; Basel, Switzerland, and Graz and Vienna, Austria. And the drastically enhanced visuals include the Alps mountain ranges, over 100 well-known locations, and several airports. There are also new discovery flights, landing challenges, and bush trips.

What’s not happened as planned, however, is the Top Gun expansion pack: it’s been delayed to May 2022 so it can launch alongside the also-delayed Top Gun: Maverick movie.

Curious to see if they’ve done anything interesting with Salzburg and Red Bull’s Hangar 7 – it’s not near Graz or Vienna, but aviation nerds ought to be entertained by any high-quality modelling of that building or its contents, which hopefully applies just as well to the team building MSFS as the customers running it.

If you fly the included Icon A5 which can also land on water you can fly simply wherever you want and never worry about ATC or anything more than taking off, looking out of the Window and if you can manage it, to land. Start anywhere in the world you fancy.
