Xbox March Update is Here

Microsoft today announced the March Xbox Update, and there are updates across console, gaming handhelds, and more.

“We are providing new gaming experiences for players in March,” Xbox senior product marketing manager Dean Shimabukuro writes. “Xbox Insiders will be the first to test out new highly demanded console features, we have updates to share from the recent GDC, and there are new dynamic backgrounds on console for Sea of Thieves and Towerborne.”

Here’s what’s new.

Preview new console features in Xbox Insiders. Those enrolled in the Xbox Insiders program can now test several new features that were previously limited to select Insiders, including more groups on Home, custom color, per-game quick resume, and profile badges in the Guide.

Dynamic backgrounds on console. There are three new dynamic backgrounds on Xbox Series X|S console, for Crimson Desert, Sea of Thieves, and Towerborne.

New games added to the Handheld Compatibility Program. This program identifies those games that have been optimized for gaming handhelds. There are three new games this month: Crimson Desert, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and Towerborne.

New games added to Xbox Play Anywhere. There are now over 1,500 games supported by Xbox Play Anywhere, and Microsoft just added over 35 more.

New games in the stream your own games collection. These are games you bought digitally that you can stream through Xbox Cloud Gaming with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, or Essential subscription. Microsoft just added 18 new games you can stream, including the new Marathon, and several more are coming soon.

More games that support mouse and keyboard and touch controls. You can play over 190 select Xbox console games with a USB mouse and keyboard and, for those on mobile with Xbox Cloud Gaming, you can play over 260 select games with on-screen touch controls. In both cases, there are more games supported, with over 15 new titles in the former category and one, BallXPit, in the latter.
