Microsoft Launches Xbox One X Preorders with a Special Edition Console

You can now preorder a special launch version of Microsoft’s next console, called the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition. Microsoft also announced two new Xbox One S bundles tied to the game Middle Earth: Shadow of War.

But the big news, of course, is that we can now preorder the first Xbox One X. As Microsoft previously revealed, the price is $499.

“Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition is a limited edition console featuring a custom design with the words ‘Project Scorpio’ printed on the console and the controller,” a Microsoft representative told me. If this sounds familiar, it’s because Microsoft offered a similar “Day One” edition of the original Xbox One console back in 2013.

In addition to its custom branding, Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition features what Microsoft calls “a sophisticated and dynamic graphic pattern across the exterior” which was inspired by the original Xbox. It also ships with an exclusive stand so that you can position the console vertically if you’d like.

If you do want to buy an Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition for yourself, move quickly: Microsoft says that there are limited quantities of this version of the console and that they will only be made available for preorder. Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever.

In addition to its first Xbox One X console version, Microsoft also announced two Xbox One S bundles, with 500 GB and 1 TB hard drives, that are tied to the game Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Each includes the game plus bonus in-game items Legendary Champions War Party and the Epic Sword of Dominion.

The 500 GB bundle costs $279 and is available now in all Xbox One markets excluding the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, China, and Japan. The 1 TB version costs $349 and is now available in all Xbox One markets excluding China and Japan, Microsoft says.

Don't care about the Special Edition graphics, would have much preferred a 2TB version. But a 2TB version would have pushed the price over $499, which would have looked really bad. So I preordered this and will use a plug in drive if needed.

In reply to TallGuySE:

A key benefit of the X is the 7200rpm hard drive. I'm not sure if there are are actually any 2.5" 2Tb 7200rpm drives outside of the enterprise market, and they cost a fortune.

Link didn't initially work for me. I went to MSFT's site directly and found the link. Pre-Ordered via AMZN and it worked. I now see it's not available. Assuming Sold Out already? Thanks Paul! I never would have made it on time if I didn't follow you on TWTR.

In reply to theshum:

Interesting that when I ordered the AMZN link was there but the MSFT one was not. I now see the MSFT one but it shows Out of Stock.

I pre-ordered mine from Best Buy. I plan on using the Kinect with it (with the adapter.) I still like the voice commands, the few good connect games they made and the few FPS games that took advantage of the Kinect (Alien: Isolation)

Preordered via Microsoft. Those in the know from Windows Central say sources say preorders are way ahead of expectations.

This doesn't make sense.. limited number. Its a pre-order system – so set a date, and then make enough to fulfill all of the pre-orders that come in by that date.

That said, I'm not considering it as I'll wait for the hardware to make its way through teething/v1 problems.

Pre-ordered on the MS Oz site. Internal HD size not really worrying me as all of my games are on the external drive I have connected so moving from one console to another is relatively easy (did this from Xbox One to Xbox One S – I think it took about 10 mins for the console to sync up the games and load them onto the menu). Am looking forward to having it sit vertically though… :-)
