Microsoft Announces Four New Xbox One S Bundles

Posted on October 11, 2017 by Paul Thurrott in Xbox One with 5 Comments

Microsoft today announced four new Xbox One S bundles, for Minecraft, Rocket League, Halo, and Xbox Game Pass.

“This fall, we’ve got something for everyone so you can choose how you game on Xbox One,” Microsoft’s Matt Lapsen writes. “We’re continuing to deliver the best value in games and entertainment with Xbox One S.”

As he notes, there are now over 1,300 games on Xbox One, including over 200 exclusives. But in some ways, the sheer number of Xbox One S console bundles is equally impressive: There really is something for everyone.

Here’s what’s new this week.

Xbox One S Minecraft Complete Adventure Bundle. This $279 bundle includes a 500 GB Xbox One S console, an Xbox Wireless Controller, a full-game download code for Minecraft, a full add-on download code for the Minecraft Explorer’s pack (which includes the Chinese Mythology Mashup, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle and Beasts Skin Pack and Campfire Tales Skin Pack), a full-game download code for Minecraft: Story Mode Season 1 – The Complete Adventure (which includes episodes 1-8), 3 months of Xbox Live Gold, and 1 month of Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox One S Rocket League Blast-Off Bundle. This €279 bundle is available only in Europe and the UK. It includes a 500 GB Xbox One S console, an Xbox Wireless Controller, a full-game download code for Rocket League, 3 months of Xbox Live Gold, and 1 month of Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox One S Ultimate Halo Bundle. This $279 bundle includes a 500 GB Xbox One S console, an Xbox Wireless Controller, full-game download codes for Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo 5: Guardians, 14 days of Xbox Live Gold, and 1 month of Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox One S Starter Bundle. This $279 bundle includes a 500 GB Xbox One S console, an Xbox Wireless Controller, 3 months of Xbox Live Gold, and 3 months of Xbox Game Pass.

This could come across as a bit desperate.

The Xbox Game Pass bundle is frankly brilliant. It addresses a complaint I've heard from moms (including my mom and stepmom) over and over again about buying a new video game console that you spend all this money to get it for your kid and it has no (or limited) games that comes with it. Here they have a huge catalog of games they can play on day one regardless of what the kids end up liking. They can opt to continue with the game pass or start building their own collection of the games they like in that time. I hope they market the crap out of that bundle because it would be a favorite for Christmas shoppers.

500GB is a killer for me. I have 2TB right now (with external hard drive) and I'm at 78% full.

I too, would be more interested if there were 2TB bundles. I also don't want a bunch of external drives hanging off my Xbox 1S. I currently have a 1TB and a 2TB model and I'm always shuffling things on and off the 1TB as my 2TB is at 88% capacity. That's one of the reasons I'm not jumping on the Xbox One X bandwagon yet, as there has been no word on at least a 2TB model that I'm aware of.
