New Holiday Promotion: Buy an Xbox One S, Get a Free Xbox Wireless Controller

While the best of the holiday Xbox promotions may be behind us, this new promotion comes pretty close: It provides new Xbox One S buyers with a free Xbox Wireless Controller. That’s a $60 savings, assuming you need two controllers.

“When you buy any new Xbox One or Xbox One S console from December 4 through December 10, you’ll get a new Xbox Wireless Controller at no additional cost,” Microsoft’s Will Tuttle explains. “The new Xbox Wireless Controller works with any Xbox One console and features enhanced comfort and feel with textured grip, improved wireless range and Bluetooth technology for gaming on Windows 10 devices.”

The nicest thing about this deal, perhaps, is that it’s not limited to Microsoft Store: You will also get it at participating retailers like Amazon, Target, GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart.com, and others, Microsoft says.

That said, it’s not clear if this offer is US-only—I’d imagine so—which I know is a sore spot for Microsoft’s international customers.

Back in the day all consoles shipped with two controllers, and games were actually made to be co-op, so while kids were not playing out and living the life, they were still home sharing time with a friend or a sibling. Now it’s actually hard to find a game that has local co-op…

I do miss the days of local co-op. James Bond Golden eye with 4 players on a 13" CRT TV was epic as a kid! I do like the way some Call of Duty games let you play online multiplayer with 2 local players split screen.

I would love to find a good co-op game that my girlfriend and I could play together. Or better yet, one that the two of us, and my two kids, could play together. Whither the overhead view dungeon siege games?

Also available in Canada. I had a sinking feeling, having just bought an XBox One S Halo 1TB edition, until I realized I got that for $380 (welcome to Canada) with a $50 code and an additional free game, but now the same 1TB box is $449.
