Google Assistant Can Now Speak to You In John Legend’s Voice

Ah yes. Remember when Google announced it’s adding John Legend as a voice on Google Assistant last year? Well, he is finally here.

You can now use John Legend’s voice on your Google Assistant. John Legend’s voice is available as a “cameo voice” on all Assistant devices in the United States. Legend’s voice is only available for a limited time and it will allow your Assistant to respond with his voice for some content.

You will need to activate Legend’s cameo voice by asking Assistant to “talk like a Legend.” Cringe, I know.

But once activated, you can ask Assistant basic questions like “what’s the temperature outside?” or “tell me a joke” to hear Legend’s “silky smooth” voice. And you can also ask Legend some personal questions like “who is Chrissy Tiegen?” or “what’s your favorite type of music?” And Google says there are some “surprises” too, including for answers to questions like “Hey Google, serenade me” or “Hey Google, are we just ordinary people?”

Assistant will continue to answer other questions in its normal voice, and you can turn off the cameo voice from settings. Here’s a video of John Legend recording his voice for his cameo on Assistant:

Kinda neat. I can think of a few folks I’d love to have as voices. Unfortunately most of them are long since passed like Majel Barrett, the voice of the Enterprise in The Next Generation, and famous film preview VO artists Hal Douglas (Tonight on the WB!) and Don laFontaine (IN A WORLD…)

Among the living, off the top of my head, Ron Perlman (“You want me to do something?”), Kelsey Grammer (“I’m listening…”), and for when I want my talking hockey puck to be weirder than me, Zooey Deschanel (“Uhh Yeah! I can tooootally do that!”)

In reply to evox81:

Most likely. But it wouldn’t have the same feel. Wouldn’t be as alive.
