Acer Introduces World’s Lightest 15-inch Laptop, New Chromebook, More

Along with its new Windows Mixed Reality headset, Acer today launched a bunch of new laptops. The company is refreshing its Swift and Aspire lines, and launching a new Chromebook.

First, let’s talk about the new Swift 5: it’s the world’s lightest 15-inch notebook that weighs less than a kilogram (2.2 pounds). It’s powered by the new 8th Gen Intel Core i7 U-series, promising to offer up to 10 hours of battery life. You can get up to 16GB of DDR SDRAM with the device, combined with up to 1TB of NVMe PCIe SSD storage. The device includes a 15-inch Full HD display with narrow bezels of 0.23 inches and a screen-to-body ratio of 87.6%. It looks stunning for a 15-inch laptop.

Acer is upgrading the other Swift devices, like the 14-inch Swift 5 and Swift 3 to include Intel’s new processors. The Swift 3 is also getting new display sizes as part of the latest set of refreshes. As for the Swift 7, Acer has teased a tweaked design to make it even thinner, making it the world’s thinnest 14-inch laptop. And for the Aspire line, most of the upgrades aren’t anything major apart from the usual CPU upgrades.

For Chromebook fans, Acer is launching the new Chromebook 514. Acer isn’t revealing much of the details about the internals of the device, though it includes an aluminium chassis, a 14-inch Full HD IPS display, an HDR camera, and it will be available in October for $349.99.

Most of Acer’s new laptops are going to be available later this year, starting from October through December. Keep an eye out for these if you have any interest in Acer’s products.

It's not the lightest 15 inch out there. The LG Gram 15 from 2017 is, and although the 2017 model is no longer in production, being replaced by the 2018 with its bigger battery, I'm sure there's still plenty 2017 models out there. Thurrott.com should call out Acer's sleezy and incompetent marketing.
