Logitech’s MX Master 3 Finally Brings Type-C and a New Magnetic Scroll Wheel

Logitech is launching a brand new generation of its popular MX Master mouse today. The MX Master line is built for professionals, and I have been using the original MX Master for years, and that’s still lasting me really well. Logitech has obviously iterated on the original MX Master over the years, launching products like the MX Master 2S, and even a crazy vertical version. Today, it’s succeeding the MX Master 2S with the MX Master 3.

The new MX Master 3 comes with some major changes. It introduces a new magnetic scroll wheel which Logitech calls the MagSpeed Electromagnetic scrolling tech, replacing the traditional mechanical scrolling wheel. It’s made of machined steel and gives you 87% more precision than the MX Master 2S. It’s also 90% faster than a regular Logitech mouse. As usual with MX Master mice, you will be able to switch between a line-by-line scrolling mode and a free-spinning mode that can scroll 1,000 lines in one second. It also comes with 4000 DPI, so it practically works on most surfaces, including glass.

Logitech has also switched up the design of the side buttons slightly, moving the back/forward buttons under the scroll wheel on the side. That’s also been upgraded to machined steel, by the way, to go with the main scrolling wheel at the top.

Apart from that, the only other major change here is support for USB-C charging. Logitech finally moved away from the Micro USB charging port to a Type-C port, which will be a welcome change to many. It supports quick charging, so you can get 3 hours of use from a minute of charge, and it can last up to 70 days on a full charge.

The new MX Master 3 is available for purchase today for $99.99.

such a poor design, why they didn't copy apple putting the port under the mouse? in this way you can even use the mouse while charging

In reply to dontbeevil:

It is in the same position as in the old MX Master 2S, it is perfectly placed to charge the mouse while it is in use – I do that every couple of months, when it needs recharging.

I went from an MX Revolution to a Master 2S (a pair in fact, one for work , one for home). They are great mice.

I would certainly like to upgrade, but the price is too high to swap them out every couple of years. The 2Ss will have to hold up for another couple of years first.

I was scrolling though a long PDF yesterday and was bored, I released the ratchet and let it free scroll, a single (hard) flick of the wheel got me through nearly 400 pages, before it slowly ground to a halt.

In reply to Wolf:

Thanks. I've lived in Germany for nearly 20 years and I speak English for maybe half an hour a month and this site and The Register forums are about the only place I still write English.

Still no option for lefthanders then?

I would have thought with their scale it wouldn't be an impossible market to consider.

Also you an keep your usb (anything) charging – I'd rather revert to AAs. My couple year old MX Anywhere 2 can barely hold charge for a week now…

In reply to agt4:

I've had good experience with the rechargeable batteries in the Logitech mice. My original MX (2003) lasted nearly a decade, my Master 2S, both of them, are over 2 years old and still hold a couple of months charge.

In reply to agt4:

The 1100 just has a single rechargable 1.2V AA battery that is very easy to replace. But I don't think the Master 3 would be so easy considering it has quick charge.

In reply to agt4:

I have had an MX1100 for over 10 years, it still has its original battery and still holds a charge for about a month.
