Lenovo is launching a new version of its Smart Display today. The company first launched the Smart Display, powered by Google Assistant, back at CES 2018. At IFA 2019, it’s now introducing a new Google Assistant-powered Smart Display: the Smart Display 7.
The new Smart Display 7 comes with a new design that’s really different from the original Smart Display. The device now features an improved front-facing speaker, moving away from the quirky design of the original Smart Display. It still features a really minimalistic design that we have seen from Lenovo’s line of smart home devices so far. It features a 7-inch SD touchscreen, and the speakers sit just underneath the display, which also comes with thinner bezels now. Lenovo says it’s added an ambient light sensor to the device so it can now adjust the display based on your environment so your pictures look better on the display.
The upgraded device also comes with improved speakers. It now features front-facing left and right speakers for stereo separation, and it’s apparently housed in a larger chamber thanks to the new design, allowing for improved audio resonance.
As usual with smart displays, the Smart Display 7 includes a shutter over the camera and a physical mute button. It will be available for $129.99 in October.
