AMD Revenues Surged in Q2

AMD reported that it earned a net income of $447 million on revenues of $6.6 billion in the quarter ending June 25, 2022. The former figure is down 37 percent year-over-year, but revenues jumped by 70 percent.

“We delivered our eighth straight quarter of record revenue based on our strong execution and expanded product portfolio,” AMD chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su said. “Each of our segments grew significantly year-over-year, led by higher sales of our data center and embedded products. We see continued growth in the back half of the year highlighted by our next generation 5nm product shipments and supported by our diversified business model.”

AMD said that its lower net income was due to a lower operating income, which was tied to the firm’s acquisition of Xilinx. But all of its business units delivered revenue gains YOY.

The firm’s Client segment was its biggest business, with $2.2 billion in revenues in the quarter, a gain of 25 percent YOY, and driven by strong Ryzen mobile processor sales. AMD’s Gaming segment contributed another $1.7 billion in revenues, up 32 percent thanks to higher semi-custom product sales which partially offset a decline in gaming graphics revenue.

AMD’s Data Center segment—which includes server CPUs, data center GPUs, and its Pensando and Xilinx data center products—delivered $1.5 billion in revenues, up 83 percent. And the Embedded segment added $1.3 billion in revenues, up 2,228 percent YOY thanks to the inclusion of Xilinx revenues. All Other reported an operating loss of $1.5 billion compared to a $92 million gain a year ago due to the “amortization of intangible assets largely associated with the Xilinx acquisition.”
