Nvidia Announces $599 GeForce RTX 4070 GPU

Nvidia unveiled today its new GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, which will be available starting tomorrow at $599. The RTX 4070 is a cheaper version of the $799 RTX 4070 Ti that the company released in January, and it’s designed for 1440p gameplay at over 100FPS with both ray tracing and Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technology enabled.

“Making sure games are ‘RTX ON’ with both ray tracing and DLSS has become a top priority for the majority of PC gamers,” said Matt Wuebbling, vice president of global GeForce marketing at NVIDIA. “With prices starting at $599, the RTX 4070 is an amazing upgrade for gamers running on previous-generation GPUs.”

Thanks to Nvidia’s new Ada Lovelace architecture and DLSS 3, which leverages AI to create new frames and improve game performance, the company claims that its GeForce RTX 4070 on average is 1.4x faster than the last-gen GeForce RTX 3080 with DLSS 3. For games that don’t support ray-tracing or DLSS, Nvidia claims that its new GPU “is on par with the GeForce RTX 3080 while running at nearly half the power — and offering an additional 2GB of memory.”

In addition to gamers, Nvidia is also targeting content creators with its new GPU. The GeForce RTX 4070 comes with 12GB of ultra-high-speed GDDR6X memory and fourth-generation Tensor Cores for AI tools. The eighth-generation NVIDIA video encoder NVENC also adds support for the more efficient AV1 video codec.

Nvidia and select retailers will start offering the GeForce RTX 4070 Founders Edition tomorrow. Models from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, PNY, and other manufacturers will follow soon.
