Lenovo’s Legion Go Gaming Handheld is Coming in October at $699

Lenovo Legion Go

Lenovo officially announced its Legion Go gaming handheld today, which comes with a kickstand and detachable controllers similar to the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons. Lenovo has also created some interesting companion accessories for its handheld gaming PC such as the Legion Go Glasses, which will work as a portable external monitor.

“We began designing the Lenovo Legion Go over two years ago in order to empower gamers around the world to game their way. With the introduction of the Lenovo Legion Go, we are excited to expand our Lenovo Legion gaming ecosystem with a device that allows gamers to—literally—game on the go,” said Jun Ouyang, Lenovo’s vice president and general manager of the Consumer Business Segment, Intelligent Devices Group in the press release.

Just like the Asus ROG Ally, the Lenovo Legion Go is powered by AMD chips and runs Windows 11, which means that gamers can easily install any digital store they want and access PC Game Pass. Lenovo’s Legion Space software will also provide easy access to installed games, game launchers, and quick settings.

The Lenovo Legion Go comes with a large 8.8-inch touchscreen with a 2560×1600 resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. In comparison, the Asus ROG Ally only has a 7-inch screen with a Full HD resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen on Valve’s Steam Deck has the same 7” diagonal, but its resolution drops to 1280×800.

Under the hood, the Legion Go comes with AMD Ryzen Z1 CPUs with Radeon RDNA 3 graphics providing up to 8.6 teraflops of GPU power. There’s also 16GB of LPDDR5X memory on board and up to 1TB of storage that’s expandable with a micro-SD slot. Lenovo also included two USB-C ports with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0 support, an audio jack, and there’s also Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E support for wireless connectivity.

Lenovo didn’t share specific details about battery life, but the 49.2Wh battery supports Super Rapid Charge to reach up to 70% capacity in just half an hour. Just like on the Asus ROG Ally, different power modes are available to adjust battery consumption on the fly.

The detachable TrueStrike controllers on the Legion Go include an integrated trackpad on the right controller, an angled mouse wheel, and a total of 10 mappable buttons. When detached, the right controller can be placed into a magnetic base for more precise aiming in FPS games.

Lenovo Legion Go Glasses

The Legion Go Glasses, which will be sold separately for $329 will offer a private screen experience on the go. They include two micro-OLED displays with a 1920×1080 resolution and 60Hz refresh rate, as well as built-in speakers. They connect to the Legion Go via USB-C, and they can also work as an external display on any Windows PC, macOS, or Android device with full-function USB-C.

In the US, the Lenovo Legion Go will be available in October at Lenovo.com, Best Buy, Micro Center, and select retail partners, with prices starting at $699. In Europe, it will be available in November starting at €799. Lenovo also teamed up with Microsoft to offer customers 3 free months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
