Meta Quest 2 Gets a Permanent Price Cut

Meta Quest 2

If Apple’s Vision Pro headset is expected to shake up the VR market in the coming weeks, the Meta Quest 2 has just received a permanent $50 price drop, TechCrunch is reporting today. The 128GB version is now priced at $249, while the 256GB version also saw its price drop to $299.

These discounted prices for the VR headset were previously available during Black Friday, and it’s good to see them becoming permanent. Meta is also discounting Quest 2 accessories with up to $30 savings on the Carrying Case, Active Pack, Elite Strap with battery, and Anker Charging Dock.

The Meta Quest 2 was originally released in October 2020 as the Oculus Quest 2, and Meta dropped the Oculus branding two years later. It came with a better display with 1832×1920 resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and redesigned Touch controllers with improved ergonomics. It’s still the most popular VR display on Steam with a 37.87% usage share as of December 2023.

After the Meta Quest 2, which is a pure VR headset, Meta released two mixed reality headsets, the Quest 3 and the Quest Pro, which remain at $499 and $999, respectively. Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro is also a mixed-reality headset that will let users see their physical space, but it will be priced at $3,499 at launch.

In October, Meta also teamed up with Ray-Ban to launch a new line of smart glasses starting at $299 in the US. The glasses let users take pictures, live stream what they see on Facebook or Instagram, and use their voice to interact with the “Meta AI” assistant. If you’re not really into virtual or mixed reality, the Meta/Ray-Ban may be one of the best examples of wearable computing devices that don’t make people look like idiots.
