Intel has just announced the launch of its newest Core Ultra processors mobile CPUs, the Core Ultra 200V series. This new “Lunar Lake” generation of Core Ultra CPUs is designed for AI PCs, and Intel says that all laptops using these new chips will support Copilot+ PC features with an upcoming update coming in November (presumably Windows 11 version 24H2).

Microsoft and its PC partners launched the first Qualcomm-powered Copilot+ PCs in June, and these PCs are already running Windows 11 version 24H2 without the flagship “Recall” AI feature that Microsoft will soon start testing with Insiders in October. In June, AMD had also announced Copilot+ PC capable chips for laptops and desktop PCs in June. Now that Intel has followed suit, Microsoft has confirmed in a separate announcement that new systems powered by Intel and AMD’s latest chips for AI PCs will also be “Copilot+ PCs.”

“AMD and Intel have delivered next generation enhancements to their Ryzen AI 300 and Intel Core Ultra 200v processors,” said Pavan Davuluri, Corporate Vice President, Windows + Devices. “Through our deep co-engineering partnerships and updates in Windows 11, Copilot+ PCs powered by these next-gen AMD and Intel silicon will fully realize these hardware improvements, resulting in meaningful advancements across performance, battery life, security and connectivity.”

With its new Core Ultra 200V series CPUs, Intel promises up to 3x the performance per thread compared to the previous generation, up to 80% peak performance uplift, and up to 20 hours of battery life in productivity scenarios. In addition to redesigned Performance and Efficient cores, Intel’s new chips also come with improved Arc GPUs with up to eight 2nd gen Xe-cores delivering a 30% graphics performance increase.

On the NPU front, Intel says that the 4th generation NPU on its Core Ultra 200V series chips is up to 4x more powerful than the previous generation. “Through partnerships with leading ISVs, broad ecosystem support and more than 500 optimized AI models, PCs powered by the newest Intel Core Ultra processors empower users to take full advantage of what AI can offer,” the company said today.

Intel said today that more than 80 devices using its new Core Ultra 200V chips will be available this fall, with the first devices coming on September 24. Most of these devices will sport the “Intel Evo” label, which means that they’ve been designed to deliver great performance and battery life in an ultra-thin design.
